Pooled Trust Services

Currently, there are two organizations providing pooled trust services to people with developmental disabilities, North Bay Housing Coalition, and Inland Regional Center.

The Golden State Pooled Trust (GSPT) was created in 2004 in collaboration with the Dale Law Firm. The purpose of the Trust is to assist individuals with disabilities (of all kinds) throughout California who have received funds through some mechanism (inheritance, personal injury award, etc.) and are faced with losing their benefits. It is a type of special needs trust that offers more alternatives to beneficiaries and at a lower cost than involvement of the courts. This is especially applicable for families planning ahead for their adult family member. This is a source of ongoing funding for the North Bay Housing Coalition.

The Inland Regional Center Master Trust of California was established in 1979. The Master Trust is a pooled multi-million dollar special needs trust that preserves benefits for the person with disabilities. It is a special program of the Inland Regional Center and accepts trusts from regional centers throughout the state. Administration of the trust is overseen by the Master Trust Committee of the regional center’s board of trustees. Trusts can be a First Party or Self-settled Trust or Third Party Trust where one person funds the trust of another. Administration of the trust is overseen by the Master Trust Committee of the regional center’s board of trustees. Pooled funds are managed by Merrill Lynch. The Trust will accept outright gifts, bequests, charitable gift annuities, charitable remainder trusts, charitable lead trusts, beneficiary of insurance policies, IRAs, and real estate.
